Transcript of interview with "Rattlehead" of WMTL radio - (July/2003)
Q: How did you get into this business?
A: I've been a coffin collector for 35 years. I have over 350 coffin shaped items from all over the world. My coffin museum has been featured on some of the internet museums. I've been given the affectionate nickname of "The Coffin Queen".
Q: Where do your gems come from?
A 3 years ago I saw a coffin shaped stone on the internet and I emailed the gemologist. We entered into an exclusive contract to cut my gemstones into these perfect coffin shapes.
Q: Do you have both Men's and Women's styles of jewelry?
A: I sure do! I create earrings, pendants, rings, tie tacks and cufflinks in both Men's and Women's styles.
Q: What kind of people are your customers?
A: I have met so many interesting people from all walks of life, and am proud to call a lot of them my friends. Some of my celebrity customers include the heavy metal bands Slayer and Power's Court, the creator of the Living Dead Doll line, gothic and vampire people, and anyone who is into
"divine morbidity with good taste".
Q: Do you sell gemstones too, or just jewelry?
A: I sell both. People can purchase gemstones from me and make their own creations, as well as purchase the finished jewelry. I've had gothic shop owners purchase parcels of gemstones to feature in their own jewelry line. I've been in contact with the catalogs
Design Toscano and The Pyramid Collection about my designs, so I also sell both retail and wholesale. And your purchase will even come in it's own coffin shaped mailing box!
Q: What's the biggest gemstone you've had cut into a coffin shape?
A: So far, I had a 20 carat gemstone cut into a coffin shape for a woman's pendant. I stock 10 different gemstones, in
sizes ranging from 3 to10 carats. The 5 and 10 carat gemstones are becoming
very popular. I've had orders for engagement ring sets and they are stunning!
Q: How can people get in touch with you? Do you have a store?
A: I don't have a typical brick and mortar store, as it wouldn't be practical since I sell my designs worldwide. My store is online at
www.coffingems.com, though if you see me driving around in my hearse
I always have gemstones and jewelry with me!
