There are as many ring styles as there are stars in the sky – what one do I choose? Here are some tips on what style to choose:
Is the ring cast as one piece? If not, the design will wear and eventually break at the soldered points over time.
Is the ring cast thick or thin? The more metal that is used in a design adds value and also protection of all the stones that are set into it.
What is a good ring band? The best type of band is a comfort-fit band (also known as a d-ring style). This provides the wearer a thicker band and polished so the edges are not uncomfortable to wear, mimicking the natural curves of the finger. Any band should never be less than 2mm wide as it will wear thin and break over time.
What are good settings for stones? The best settings for stones are Bezel or Prong set. Both provide a secure base for the stone and sturdy metal around the stone for keeping it set in place without movement.
Does the ring cast have “details” all around it? While leafy details, sprays of flowers, and other added decorative details look great in photographs - in real-life wear, they will all become stress points for bending/breakage of the ring and loss of stones, even with extreme care on your part.
Does the ring cast showcase the main stone? The simpler the design around the main stone – the more the eye catching the main stone becomes and the focus is on that stone. It doesn’t take a back-seat to the other details/stones.
Fine jewelry is an investment that you will want to wear every day. Novelty jewelry, while generally more “blingy”, is something that you wear occasionally and with extreme care each and every time you wear it.
Coffin Gems® philosophy has always been that you are buying a coffin gemstone and want to show it off!
We choose the appropriate-sized simple accent stones (based on the coffin gemstone size) as to not over/under power the overall look.
Our castings are made from one solid piece of material, with thick bands that are the comfort-fit style.
We use prong or bezel settings for both the Coffin Gems and the accent stones.
Before releasing our designs for sale, we wear-test all of our designs to be sure the design is something that we would want to wear, and more importantly, not have any problems with!
